1 dead and 3 injured in head-on crash

One person died and three others were injured in an accident that occurred in Arkansas on June 19. According to Arkansas State Police, the incident happened at 7 a.m. near Firefly Lane on U.S 64 close to Alma. The police report says a 62-year-old woman driving west in a 2014 model Nissan Altima crossed into oncoming traffic while driving through a right-hand curve and collided with a 2003 Ford Windstar. The front left-side of the Altima reportedly struck the minivan on the front bumper.

Police said that all four people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts. They were taken to a nearby hospital, but the driver of the Altima eventually succumbed to her injuries. The injuries of the 62-year-old man driving the Windstar, along with those of his 23- and 41-year-old passengers, were not disclosed in the report.

The people injured in the accident may consider filing personal injury suits against the deceased driver's estate. These people could be awarded compensation for any medical expenses, loss of income or other damages caused by the accident. In order to win restitution from the woman's estate through a civil trial, the plaintiffs' lawyers would need to show that the accident was caused by the decedent's negligent driving.

There are many forms of driver negligence, including distracted driving, fatigue, intoxication and speeding. Legal counsel for plaintiffs in motor vehicle accident cases routinely work with medical examiners and reconstruction specialists to uncover evidence pointing toward the defendant's liability for the incident. Lawyers typically begin the discovery process by reviewing the police report and witnesses' accounts of the events.
