Is post-traumatic stress disorder possible after a car accident?

In addition to physical injuries, Arkansas residents who become involved in car accidents might also experience a number of emotional effects. Some individuals might suffer from overwhelming disbelief, guilt and feelings of shock, and coping with these feelings can be a difficult endeavor. In most cases, these feelings might disappear, but in some cases, emotional issues may continue to plague a victim for an extended period.

Such extend feelings may be evidence of post-traumatic stress disorder. Symptoms of PTSD may vary from case to case. Some victims might experience a general sense of wariness and may find it difficult to operate or ride in cars. Occasionally, some victims might be find it difficult to fall asleep and could suffer nightmares.

As the symptoms show, PTSD may have a serious influence on an individual's life, but there are some suggestions a victim might follow when trying to cope with the disorder. One source suggests that maintaining a daily routine and exercising regularly could help with the coping process. In addition, discussing the emotional difficulties with family and friends may offer some benefits. It might also be possible to retain a professional counselor or work with a medical doctor.

Those who have suffered serious physical and emotional injuries in a car accident might be confronted with a number of varying damages. The cost of treatment and medical care can quickly become unmanageable for many families. However, these costs may be offset by court-ordered compensation awarded at the end of a person injury lawsuit. If evidence suggests that another party may have caused the accident that led to the damages suffered by the victim, a civil court might order the liable party to provide monetary awards to the victim.
