2-vehicle crash leaves 94-year-old woman dead

Arkansas authorities reported that a 94-year-old woman died March 4 after the 2014 Honda CR-V SUV she was riding in collided with another vehicle. According to the report, the 16-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and lost control of the vehicle, causing the crash.

The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. in Benton County. Three people were injured, including the 16-year-old driver of the pickup truck, his 16-year-old passenger and a 72-year-old female passenger in the Honda. The report indicated that a medical helicopter was called to remove the injured individuals from the scene of the crash, but the wet weather and poor road conditions made the helicopter unable to fly. The three injured individuals were reportedly being treated at a nearby hospital.

Young drivers are often at risk for causing serious or even fatal car accidents, especially when the road conditions are not optimal. Regardless, if it was found that the driver was operating their vehicle too fast for road conditions or was driving recklessly, they may still be held responsible for causing the crash.

Those who lose loved ones in fatal accidents often have the option of filing a wrongful death claim against the driver who caused the accident. Additionally, this claim may also be filed against the owner of the vehicle, such as the driver's parents. In most cases, a wrongful claim allows an immediate family member of the deceased person to recover the financial and emotional costs that were sustained directly due to the crash, including funeral costs and compensation for loss of companionship.
