Injury symptoms that may show up days later

| Sep 14, 2015 | Uncategorized

Many car accidents occur in Arkansas each year. When people are involved in a collision, they may have a rush of adrenaline afterwards or feel confused. Because of this, many do not notice injury symptoms they have until several days after an accident.

There are several different types of symptoms that may show up several hours or days after an accident’s occurrence. The most commonly known ones are the stiff, painful neck and shoulders that are due to whiplash injuries. People who have whiplash may also experience tingling or numbness in their hands, due to the injury pressing on the nerve that runs down the arms.

Other delayed symptoms include such things as a painful, swollen abdomen. This can be very serious, as it could indicate the person is bleeding internally. Back pain that shows up after an accident can indicate damage to the vertebrae, discs, muscles or nerves. Headaches that appear later may indicate that the person suffered a head or neck injury. It can also signal that the person has a blood clot that has developed on their brain. If a person’s personality or ability to function changes, it can be a sign of a traumatic brain injury. It is also common for people who have been in accidents to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, for which they will need treatment.

The fact that symptoms may not show up for several days makes it important for people to go to their doctors and get checked out even if they initially do not believe they were injured in a motor vehicle accident. If the accident was due to the fault of another driver, they may want to discuss with an attorney the remedies that may be available.
