Safety measures to prevent scald burns

Every year, there are people in Arkansas who are seriously injured after coming in contact with hot liquids, hot food, steam or fire. Any source of high heat can result in a scald burn, and these injuries can be very painful. To prevent scald burns, people should take safety precautions when working around sources of heat.

A majority of scald burns occur when people are cooking hot food or bathing in hot water. Children younger than 5 years old are the most at risk for scald burns, and elderly and disabled people are also at a high risk for them.

One of the most important things to do to prevent scald burns in children is to keep children away from sources of high heat. Parents should teach their children to always stay 3 feet away from hot appliances, and hot items should not be placed near the edges of counters and tables. When a child is being bathed, the water temperature should not surpass 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Rather than turning on the hot water tap first, a person should turn on the cold water and then adjust the temperature slowly using hot water. It is also advisable to always shut off the hot water tap first.

A serious burn injury that occurs at a restaurant or hotel may be the result of some type of negligence on the part of the business owner. A person who has suffered from a scald burn may want to talk to a lawyer about filing a personal injury lawsuit that would seek compensation for the losses that have been incurred.
